Chittagong Port

The Chittagong Port is the Principal Port of Bangladesh Who handling approx. 90% of Seaborn trade of the country & mounting the great importance in national Economy. Chittagong Port is one of the largest and busiest ports in South Asia ranked as the 58th busiest container port in the world with an annual capacity of 1 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers. The Chittagong Port has been opened to foreign trade since 1876. In fact, it was one of the world’s first ports to allow international trade by allowing foreigners to set up factories in the region. The port is managed by the Chittagong Port Authority.

Geographical location: Situated at the right bank of river Karnaphuli at a distance of about 9 nautical miles from the shore of Bay of Bengal located in the city of Chittagong in the southeastern part of Bangladesh. Chittagong port is located in the natural harbor of Karnaphuli river. North of it is Latitude 22° 18′ 45″ North, Longitude 91° 46′ 30″ East, South Latitude 22° 08′ 13″ North, Longitude 91° 50′ 00″

East. Width: Navigational Channel (5.49 M Contour) varies from place to place.

Facilities: General Cargo Berths: 10 nos & Container Berths: 06 nos

General Info:
a) The maximum permissible draft for entering and leaving Chittagong Port berth is 9.50 Meters.
b) The maximum permissible length for entering and leaving Chittagong Port berth is 190 Meters.
c) The maximum permissible length for entering and leaving during night navigation is 175 Meters.
d) The maximum permissible draft for Main Jetty area i.e. Jetty no.2 to 8 is 8.55 Meter & Jetty no.9 to 13, CCT, NCT, GSJ, DOJ-4-7, K (U & A), UTTJ is 9.50 Metre.
e) The entry permissible draft would however depend on the day’s maximum permissible draft.
f) Pilotage is compulsory.
g) 24 Hours prior notice is required for scheduling the berthing of vessels.

Night Navigation:
a) Vessels having LOA upto 175.00M with draught 0.50M less than the day’s permissible draught will be allowed to take berth and sail out from GCB, CCT, NCT, TSP, GSJ, DDJ, KDJ, CUFLJ & KAFCO.
b) Vessels with bridge on the Bow, tanker & vessels having containers on deck obstructing clear view forward will not be handled during night.
c) The permissible LOA for the entry to the port for vessels having navigation bridge at the bow is limited to 165.00 metres subject to fair weather.

b) Maximum Permissible Draught at jetty for vessels: Upto 9.50m subject to day’s permissible draught and place of berth.
c) Maximum Permissible LOA Day time: 190 meters subject to place of berth.
d) Maximum Permissible LOA Night time: 175 meters. But Ship movement is prohibited for Tankers & vessels at mooring buoy at night.
e) Radio communication: Port Radio Control Room is equipped with modern VTS equipment and maintains a watch round the clock. Call as “PORT CONTROL” over VHF on Channel 12 & 16 for any requirement. Also kept watch on 2182 KHZ/SSB transceivers.
